Glow on the Go-A Firefly Discovery Hike

Join us for Glow on the Go, a magical evening hike for curious explorers of all ages! As we walk the trail, we’ll learn about fireflies—their life cycle, why they glow, and how they communicate. Participants will gently capture, observe, and safely release fireflies back into their habitat. This hands-on adventure blends learning and nature for a fun, memorable family experience. This is a free event. Space is limited and registration is required.

Program Cancellation & Refund Policy

If a program is cancelled by Marion County Conservation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund.

Please be advised the Marion County Board of Supervisor’s may be attending a groundbreaking ceremony at the Pella Community Center at 12:00 P.M. (noon) and open house coffee time at the Pella Memorial Building from 12:30 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 10, 2026.

The purpose of this notice is to advise that a quorum of the Board of Supervisors is possible at this event; however, no formal Board action will be taken.

Nature Friends Storytime-Mammals

Nature Friends Storytime is a fun, outdoor program for children ages 4–6 with an adult. Each session includes a nature-themed story followed by a simple craft or hands-on activity that encourages curiosity and learning about the world outside. This summer’s topics include turtles, mammals, and fish. This is a free event with limited space and registration is required.

Please note you will only need to register your child as adults will not be included in the count of participants.

Sunrise Yoga

MCCD and Cairn Yoga & Wellness are teaming up for a grounding morning yoga practice at Cordova Park. While the sun may already be shining, this class invites you to greet the day with mindful movement and breath—helping you steady yourself amidst the height of summer’s expansive energy. After yoga spend some time taking a quiet walk through the woods or take in the view from the tower.

Bring a mat, water, and an open heart. No experience needed—just come as you are! We will meet at the classroom and then head outside. The cost is $25 per person. Registration is required  by July 23,2026 at 4PM or when full.

Painting at Cordova Park

Nature, art, and conservation create a beautiful synergy. Join us for a fun afternoon of painting at Cordova Park. Amber Carpenter naturalist with Story County Conservation will be providing step-by-step painting instructions in the park while discussing some of the park’s unique features. This family friendly program is for ages 8 and up. This program is about 2 hours long with a cost of $20 per person. Space is limited and registration is required.

We will meet at the Cordova Park pavilion.
