Job Summary
Prosecutes criminal and civil cases on behalf of the State and County. Provides legal counsel and written opinions to County officials, departments, and agencies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Salary: $92,664.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
Job Duties
- Prosecutes simple misdemeanors, indictable misdemeanors, and felonies from case inception to trial. Advises law enforcement agencies and local governments on applicable laws.
- Reviews police reports, interviews witnesses, and gathers facts to determine charges and recommend victim restitution.
- Negotiates plea agreements with some oversight from the County Attorney.
- Prepares and presents evidence, arguments, and witness testimony to secure fair trial outcomes.
- Conducts mental health and substance abuse commitment proceedings, reviewing medical reports and litigating hearings.
- Manages juvenile court cases, prosecuting child protection and delinquency matters to ensure timely progress and resolution.
- Advises the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and ensures courts receive complete, accurate legal information for child protection.
- Advises Law enforcement and communicates with victims of crimes.
Job Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
Juris of Doctorate from an accredited educational institution.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Bar admission in the State of Iowa in good standing
Valid Iowa Driver’s License
Ability to pass a background check
