Assistant to Engineer

- Hours: Generally, 8 hours per day; 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; some overtime
Job Summary
Under general direction, performs design and related engineering services in the preparation of construction plans for bid; trains, directs and supervises staff engaged in construction survey, drafting and inspections; assists in the preparation of the department’s operating budget; responds to public requests for services; performs related work as assigned.

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED – Required
- Graduation from an accredited two-year college with an Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology; or equivalent certificate from a technical/vocational school or college; or related field as issued by the state or substitution of ten or more years of equivalent experience. – Required
- Extensive knowledge and expertise, sufficient to teach others or evaluate their work, such as might be acquired in 10 or more years of prior related experience. - Requried
- Driver’s License – Required
- Iowa Department of Transportation Certified Technician
- Level II PCC, Level I HMA – Required
- Erosion Control – Preferred
- Class B CDL with air brake endorsement – Preferred
- Seeking experienced, organized leader, with good personal skills and engineering background
- County government operations experience a plus
