Comrade Coffee

posted on 4/8/26

Earlier this year, the Department of Military Affairs began a new out reach program called “Comrade Coffee.”  Once a month, we gather in Knoxville, Pella and Pleasantville for free coffee and danishes.  So far, we’ve held gatherings at the Pierschbacher Event Center in Knoxville, the Pleasantville Smokey Row coffee shop and the Pella Memorial Building, with crowds numbering between 20-40 veterans.  At these three sites, the local American Legion schedules and hosts the event, while Marion County Veterans Affairs brings the coffee and pastries (some donated by Kwik Star).  The VA Department offers the same deal to other veteran communities and organizations throughout Marion County: if your organization wants to schedule and organize it, Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs funds are available to bring the resources and publicity.  Comrade Coffee events are great place to see old and new faces as we encourage veteran camaraderie and information sharing.  Hope to see you there!
