Are you traveling this holiday season and realized you still need a Real ID? If you missed the May 2025 deadline, don’t worry — it’s not too late to get the gold star on your Iowa driver’s license or state ID if you need it.

Why You Might Need a Real ID

• Required for domestic air travel
• Needed for entry into federal buildings and military bases
• The gold star makes access easier and faster

How to Get Your Real ID

• Review the documents you’ll need here:  https://ia.iowadot.gov/mvd/realid/success.aspx
• Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments help us make certain you have the correct documents, serve you quickly, and notify you of office closings due to training or bad weather
• Your new plastic license with the gold star should arrive by mail within 30 days
