City/School Election
A City School Election is an election that occurs bi-annually on odd-numbered years in November. This recently combined election is used to elect the Mayor and Council Members for specific cities within Marion County. It is also used to elect School Board Members for specific school districts located in and adjacent to Marion County.

KEY DATES:

  • Regular City School Election 11/4/25- Candidate Filing Period:
  • Monday, August 25, 2025 through Thursday, September 18, 2025
  • Filing Offices Open until 5:00 p.m. on 9/18/25
  • City Candidates – Marion County Auditor is filing officer
  • School Candidates – School Secretaries are filing officer
  • First day Auditor can receive Absentee Ballot Requests:
    • Tuesday August 26, 2025
  • First day to Absentee Vote at Marion County Auditor's Office 214 E Main St Knoxville, IA
    • Wednesday, October 15, 2025
    • Office Hours: M-F - 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Please note ID required to participate.
  • First day the Auditor's Office can mail absentee ballots to voters who have submitted requests.
    • Wednesday, October 15, 2025
  • Voter Pre-Registration Deadline   
    • Monday, October 20, 2025
    • Office Hours October 20, 2025 - 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to request a mailed Absentee Ballot.

  • Last day to vote Absentee Ballot at the Marion County Auditor's Office, 214 E Main, Knoxville IA.

  • All Absentee Ballots, whether returning in person or by mail must be received in the Marion County Auditor’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on 11/4/2025
  • You MUST vote at your precinct on Election Day - Tuesday, November 4, 2025
  • Election Day - Tuesday, November 4, 2025
    • Polling Hours 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (ID required to participate)
    • Absentee Ballot return – In Person - deadline 11/4/25, 8:00 p.m. at the Marion County Auditor's Office, 214 E Main, Knoxville Iowa.
