General Election
A General Election is an election in which all or most members of a given political body are up for election. The term is usually used to refer to elections held for a nation's primary legislative body, as distinguished from by-elections and local elections. General Elections are held the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in November of each even-numbered year.

  • Now through Wednesday, August 26, 2026
  • Filing Office Open until 5:00 p.m. on 8/26/26
  • County Candidates – Marion County Auditor is filing officer
  • First day Auditor can receive Absentee Ballot Requests:
    • Tuesday August 25, 2026
  • First day to Absentee Vote at Marion County Auditor's Office 214 E Main St Knoxville, IA
    • Wednesday, October 14, 2026
    • Office Hours: M-F - 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    • Please note ID required to participate.
  • First day the Auditor's Office can mail absentee ballots to voters who have submitted requests.

  • Voter Pre-Registration Deadline   
    • Monday, October 19, 2026
    • Office Hours October 19, 2026 - 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to request a mailed Absentee Ballot.

  • Last day to vote Absentee Ballot at the Marion County Auditor's Office, 214 E Main, Knoxville IA.

  • All Absentee Ballots, whether returning in person or by mail must be received in the Marion County Auditor’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on 11/3/2026
  • Election Day - Tuesday, November 3, 2026
    • Polling Hours 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (ID required to participate)
    • Absentee Ballot return – In Person - deadline 11/3/26, 8:00 p.m. at the Marion County Auditor's Office, 214 E Main, Knoxville Iowa.
